  • My goal is to thoroughly evaluate my patients’ spinal condition. Using the most up-to-date clinical information, I advise my patients on which treatment will be most beneficial in the long term.

I have a conservative philosophy with regard to surgery. Surgery is advised only when all non-surgical methods have proven futile, and where there is a reasonable expectation that surgery will improve the patients’ outcome.

Comments: “I want to take this time to personally thank everyone at the Spine Institute of San Diego. My name is David Brecht and I have suffered greatly from severe back pain, left leg sciatica, and headaches for over 20 years. I broke my back when I was 18 in a car accident; and subsequently had to have my back fused. Today I am 46 years old; and I have lived with chronic pain for all of my adult life. Anyone who experiences chronic pain for such a long time as I have; is well aware of the depression, anxiety, and insomnia that accompanies chronic pain. I was at my ropes end. My previous surgeon and orthopedic M.D. came to the conclusion that there was nothing that can be done to help me. They had no idea how to provide me with any relief from my pain, except to give me pain medications. Both M.D.s said I was inoperable and my images show no evidence of what is causing my pain. After years of running around in circles and becoming hopeless; I decided to get a second opinion. I did some research and I read a lot of good reviews about Dr. Kamshad Raiszadeh at the Spinal Institute of San Diego. I set up an appointment. I am a Registered Nurse and work with many M.D.s; and I know what to look for in a good doctor. The first thing I noticed was; Dr. Kamshad listened. He was genuinely interested in my case. The next thing I noticed was; he was thorough. After a complete head to toe exam and complete medical history, he went over my images carefully and said, “I see what might be causing all of your pain….the screw is coming out of your fusion.” I was in disbelief. Why didn’t my previous surgeons pick up on this? Later Dr. Kamshad collaborated with his surgical staff; and after deeper analysis of new images they discovered that the fusion was failing and all of the hardware had to be removed. So I went in for my second back surgery. I was nervous but I had faith in my new M.D. Today after surgery, I no longer have sciatica, the headaches are gone, and I am on the road to a great recovery. I want to personally thank the whole staff from America (Medical Assistant), Jon (Physician Assistant), Annette (Surgical Coordinator) and all the staff in the imaging department and at the front desk. America, was so helpful in answering all my questions, calling in prescriptions when needed, and taking care of paper work; like disability insurance and medical forms for work. Jon, the Physician’s Assistant said if I had any questions to email him, and I did. He promptly answered all emails the same day. He even emailed me back late in the evening and on the weekend, when most people are done work for the day. I have been amazed with my experience at the Spinal Institute of San Diego. It’s the best choice I have made and it has changed my life. The depression and anxiety are gone; and I am sleeping better. I am a new man. People ask me today after my surgery “How do you feel? “ and I say “Joyous and Triumphant!” because that’s how I feel. I highly recommend anyone with back pain to take a serious look at the Spinal Institute of San Diego and seek their professional expertise. I am glad I did. Thank you to everyone at the Spinal Institute of San Diego. You have given me a second chance at life. I appreciate all of you. ”

imageComments: “God blessed me with an introduction to Dr. Raiszadeh, Jonathan and all the Spine Institute staff,”proclaimed Lola as she reflected back on her experience. Not wanting to be sedentary, Lola had pushed through her aches and pains attempting to continue her daily activities as usual. But when the pain became too much, she sought help. “When I met Dr. Kamshad Raiszadeh,” she recalls, “he was reviewing an MRI of my cervical spine which showed a leaning spinal cord with nicks.” What Lola had was severe spinal stenosis with discs bulging against her spinal cord. “We talked about the danger of doing nothing versus the danger of performing surgery,” Lola continued. “I opted to trust Dr. Raiszadeh and have surgery (an ACDF - anterior cervical discectomy, fusion – plus corpectomy). The results… I am back to normal without any pain or debilitating side effects!”

imageComments:“I injured my back while working with disabled children in 1999. I tried everything possible to find relief from the resulting and continually increasing low back pain. I was treated for long periods by more than four different doctors After many x-rays, MRIs, and almost every kind of therapy available, none of the doctors could determine waht the underlying problem was. It became harder and harder to just get by on a day-to-day basis. Eventually I was unable to walk or stand for more than five minutes at a time without being in unbearable pain.

Last summer I found the Spine Institute of San Diego online and quickly scheduled an appointment. Dr. Kamshad Raiszadeh took one look at my x-rays and knew exactly what was wrong at my first appointment. He determined I had a two level spondylolisthesis slippage at L4/L5 and L5/S1. He carefully explained my options and I decided to go forward with a double level fusion using his minimally invasive surgery techniques. The surgery was a total success. I knew right away my back was repaired because I could feel my toes again immediately after waking up from anesthesia. My recovery progressed very rapidly with no complications. Six months have passed and thanks to Dr. Raiszadeh and his wonderful team, I am beginning to work out at the gym. I cannot express my gratitude enough for restoring the joy of free and unrestricted movement to do the things I love most."

Comments: "I have to admit I was scared to have back surgery and had been warned by many that spine surgeries don't always necessarily produce the desired outcome. I was told that it's very painful, recuperation is quite lengthy and that many end up worse off than before the surgery. I didn't want the surgery, but the pain was so bad and so unbearable that I had no other choice. My only choice was to find the right doctor. It was through the recommendation of another physician that I contacted Dr. Kamshad Raiszadeh for pioneering his extremely successful, minimally invasive surgery.

Dr. Raiszadeh is amazing! He performed the Spinal Lumber Fusion and completely cured all my back pain and spine problems, leaving only two very small (about 6cm) incisions on each side of my spine. The procedure cuts through less muscle and bypasses nerves that run along the spine so recovery is roughly half the time of what it would have been for the "normal" procedure. I was back at work in 3 weeks form the date of the surgery and within a month I was showing signs of solid bone growth. By 3 months I was out of the brace, taking physical therapy 3 days a week and started to return to my normal daily activities.

I was very lucky to find Dr. Raiszadeh and have recommended him to anyone I know that is experiencing severe back pain and sciatica. From his expert knowledge and skill to his bedside manner, he and his staff (especially his PA Jonathan Wu), are top notch! I hope I never have to have another surgery, especially spine surgery, for the rest of my life... but if I do, it will be with Dr. Kamshad Raiszadeh.

    Thank you Dr. Raiszadeh!!"
